Body of Haven teen recovered from Cheney Reservoir

CHENEY — Authorities have recovered the body of a Haven 16-year-old who was swept away by waves while wading in Cheney Reservoir on Monday.

Danny Thomas Allen was found at about 10:30 a.m. today in the area of Wichita Point by Wildlife and Parks officers using a boat equipped with sonar, Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson said.

Allen was wading near shore with his older brother and a friend on Monday afternoon when a wave caught hold of him, authorities have said.

He could not swim. His brother tried to hold onto him but wind-swept waters made that impossible.

Allen's body will be taken to the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center in Wichita for confirmation of his identity.
