Search to continue Tuesday for missing teen at Cheney Reservoir

The search for a Haven teenager believed to have drowned on Cheney Reservoir is scheduled to continue Tuesday morning, Reno County authorities said.

Sheriff Randy Henderson said Danny Thomas Allen, 16, was pushed into deeper water by a wave while wading about 3 p.m. today with his brother Mitchell Mees, 19, and a 17-year-old friend. Allen didn't know how to swim and went underwater.

"Attempts were made by Mees to help his brother but were unsuccessful," Henderson said.

A search began at the Wichita Point area on the northeast side of the lake near Willison and Boundary roads.

Henderson said searchers were able to look only by jet ski on the lake, because of choppy waters caused by this evening's thunderstorms in the Wichita area. The search of the waters was called off, although authorities continued to look for Allen on the shores, Henderson said.
