WICHITA — Local law enforcement officials are launching enhanced traffic enforcement during the next two weeks.
The 2011 Kansas Click It or Ticket campaign lasts until June 5, wrapping around Memorial Day weekend, which is typically a busy travel period. Law enforcement officers will pay special attention to safety belt use and child passenger safety.
State law requires that all persons in the front seat must be buckled in. Occupants age 14 and older will be cited individually if they are not buckled in.
For children under the age of 14, the driver will be cited if they are not buckled. Children under the age of 4 must be secured in an approved child safety seat.
Children ages 4 to 7 must be securely belted in an approved booster seat unless they are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall or heavier than 80 pounds. State law also prohibits persons under the age of 14 from riding in any part of a vehicle not intended to carry passengers — such as a pickup bed.
