Wichita motorcyclist dies from injuries in May 3 crash

WICHITA — A Wichita motorcyclist injured in a May 3 accident has died, a police said today.

Kenneth Bailey, 58, was taken off life support early Tuesday and died as the result of injuries sustained in the accident on Kellogg near Main, Wichita Police Lt. Doug Nolte said.

Bailey's motorcycle collided with a van about 4 a.m. on May 3. The van's driver was later charged with DUI in Municipal Court.

Detectives were to meet with the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office today to discuss changing the charge to vehicular manslaughter, Nolte said.

Because there were no witnesses, Nolte said there is a question about who hit whom in the accident.

"Driving under the influence, whether that person is at fault in the accident or not, is a contributing factor," Nolte said.

Bailey was the city's 14th traffic fatality this year. Eight of those involved a DUI, and three of those involved a motorcycle.
