One arrest, 33 citations during 'Cops on Rails' effort

WICHITA — Law enforcement officers made one arrest and wrote 33 citations during a special enforcement program Tuesday.

Operation "Cops on Rails/Officer on the Train" ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to watch for motorists who violated railroad crossing laws. One person was arrested for operating a stolen vehicle, and 17 people were cited for crossing violations.

Another 16 citations were issued for other traffic violations, officials said.

Agencies participating in the operation included the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, the Wichita Police Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
