HUTCHINSON — A 46-year-old Hutchinson man was killed today when he was crushed by a tree he was cutting down with a chain saw.
Battalion Chief Michael Miller of the Hutchinson Fire Department said the accident occurred about 12:15 p.m. as the man was cutting down trees next to some railroad tracks near a west Hutchinson business.
The tree fell on the man's back, killing him instantly, Miller said.
Hutchinson police identified the victim as Joseph I. Fredrick.
Miller said the man was a temporary worker hired by the company to cut trees.
