Traffic signals are working properly again on Douglas Avenue in downtown Wichita after a power failure shut them down during rush hour.
Emergency dispatchers said traffic signals were out from Washington to Hydraulic along Douglas, south to Kellogg.
Westar Energy reported equipment failure caused nearly 1,700 customers to lose power in central Wichita, just before 4 p.m. By 5 o'clock, fewer than 1,000 remained without power, said Westar spokeswoman Erin La Row.
At 7 p.m., only 144 customers remained without power.
