Man attacked while fishing at West 21st spillway

WICHITA — Late-night fishing in west Wichita turned into a beating and possible robbery for a 20-year-old man.

The man was fishing shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday at 3500 W. 21st St. —near a park where the spillway empties into the Big Ditch — when another person began stomping on him and knocked him out, Lt. Doug Nolte said today.

After the man woke up, he tried to crawl toward his car. He saw three people going through his vehicle who appeared to be stealing some things, Nolte said.

After he drove home, his 18-year-old girl friend noticed her cell phone was missing. He was admitted to the hospital with a severe fracture on his face.

Police are still investigating.
