JEFFERSON CITY | Missouri hopes to increase child support collections by $7.8 million during the next year by switching to a new electronic reporting system for businesses that hire new employees.
Federal and state laws require businesses to tell the state when they hire employees who owe child support. The Department of Social Services says that reporting process had relied on paperwork and manual data entry.
The Missouri department says it has hired Denver-based Policy Studies Inc. to run a new online site for businesses to report new hires. The state hopes that will make it easier to collect child support from people's paychecks.
Policy Studies Inc. says it administers about 20 new employee reporting programs around the country.
