Kansas man gets probation for videotaping his family

SALINA | A Kansas man will serve more than three years of probation after admitting that he secretly videotaped family members.

Fifty-eight-year-old Mario Alejandro Schiaffino was sentenced Tuesday after admitting his guilt and expressing remorse.

Prosecutors say Schiaffino placed the cameras in his home in July and videotaped his wife and two other females in various states of undress. He was arrested in September.

The Salina Journal reports that prosecutors and defense attorneys recommended probation as part of a plea agreement. His attorney, Pam Sullivan, told the judge that a mental evaluation found that Schiaffino is unlikely to repeat his actions.

He was sentenced to a total of 36 months probation, ordered to get mental health treatment and register as a sex offender.
