A package left on a city bus and exploded by the Wichita bomb squad Monday afternoon contained drugs, police said today.
The bomb squad found the drugs after detonating a backpack, Lt. Doug Nolte said at a news briefing this morning. Police were called at 2:10 p.m Monday, after the man made comments about the backpack as he exited the bus at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, Nolte said.
Bomb experts x-rayed the backpack and determined there were drugs inside. The backpack was detonated after the bus was evacuated near Tyler and McCormick.
A 30-year-old man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and making threats. He remained in custody this morning in lieu of $5,000 bond.
