Deanell Tacha, a federal appeals court judge from Lawrence, was named Thursday as dean of Pepperdine University's law school.
Tacha, 65, has been a circuit judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit for 25 years.
A native of Goodland, she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and law degree from the University of Michigan. She has also taught at KU's law school.
Tacha replaces Kenneth Starr, who was named president of Baylor University in February 2010. Starr is the former independent prosecutor whose investigation of the Whitewater land deal and Monica Lewinsky scandal in the 1990s led to President Bill Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives.
