The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 19 counties in south central and southeast Kansas, including the Wichita area.
The advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday until noon on Wednesday. Patchy freezing drizzle may develop late tonight across south central and southeast Kansas late tonight before changing to all snow toward dawn, according to a weather service bulletin.
Snow will expand in coverage and intensity on Tuesday before diminishing early on Wednesday. Accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected across the region by early Wednesday morning.
Ice accumulations of a trace to a few hundredths of an inch are possible with this storm, weather officials say.
North winds between 15 and 25 mph will reduce visibility due to blowing and drifting snow. Wind chills of -10 are expected on Tuesday.
