Wichita weather: Near record cold and more harsh wind chills

The storm has departed, but not the cold for the Wichita area. The overnight low today of -6 just missed tying the record for Feb. 3 of -7, set in 1989.

A wind chill advisory will be in effect until 9 a.m., but temperatures should warm up to the upper teens or so under sunny skies, forecasters say. Winds will be light out of the west-southwest – a welcome break after the last few days – but wind chills tonight will still drop well below zero.

Lows tonight will plunge near zero again, but temperatures should rebound to near freezing on Friday.
