FBI warns of jury duty phone scam

SPRINGFIELD | The FBI is warning Missourians to beware of a new identity theft scheme.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that the scam starts with the caller identifying himself as an officer of the court. Next, the caller says an arrest warrant has been issued for failing to appear for jury duty.

The caller then claims to need some information for “verification purposes,” including a birth date, Social Security number, and perhaps a credit card number.

The FBI says the scam has surfaced in Greene County. Residents should not give out any information to the callers.
