7-year-old boy killed in central Kansas farm accident

GREAT BEND, Kan. | A 7-year-old central Kansas boy has died after being run over by a tractor while helping his family feed cattle.

Barton County Undersheriff Larry Holliday says the accident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday on a farm in northwest Barton County. The Hutchinson News reports the boy's name has not been released at the family's request.

Holliday says the family was feeding cattle when the boy opened a gate to a cattle-feeding area and ran toward the tractor as it moved between pens.

The youth was pronounced dead at the scene. Holliday says the death is being investigated as an unattended death.
