Botched robbery leads to murder charge

WICHITA — A Wichita man was charged today with first-degree murder in the shooting death that occurred last week during an attempted robbery.

Terrell Cole, 30, also was charged with attempted aggravated robbery and criminal possession of a firearm. District Judge Warren Wilbert set his bond at $250,000.

Wichita police said the shooting occurred Jan. 19 as Cole and Andre Lovett were trying to rob four people in a home at 1822 N. Minneapolis.

During the course of the robbery, police said, Cole's gun discharged, and the bullet struck Lovett, 30, in the abdomen. He died the next day at Wesley Medical Center.
