Area police ticket more than 600 during Thanksgiving traffic patrols

WICHITA – Police wrote more than 600 traffic tickets in the city and suburban areas during a special patrol Thanksgiving week.

Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said that officers wrote 316 speeding tickets and 317 citations for not wearing a safety belt, including 16 for not having a proper child restraint. Police also made 16 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the saturation patrol Nov. 22 through Sunday.

Those numbers included a special traffic enforcement on Kellogg Nov. 24-25, which resulted in 143 speeding tickets, 37 seat belt violations, 25 other infractions and three DUIs.

The tickets were written by police officers in Wichita, Andover and Goddard. Sheriff’s deputies in the county wrote some 200 more tickets during the same enforcement period.
