Rural Augusta woman dies after car crashes

A 37-year-old Butler County woman has died after her vehicle crashed, an official said this morning.

After the crash Monday, Wendy J. Arnold of rural Augusta was taken with life- threatening injuries to an El Dorado hospital, where she later died, Sheriff Craig Murphy said.

The crash occurred about 1:50 p.m. Monday in the 9500 block of Southwest Haverhill Road.

Deputies found the 2002 Nissan four-door sedan overturned in the west ditch at the foot of a culvert. Arnold was trapped in the car.

It appeared that the car was going north on Haverhill Road. Just north of Southwest 95th, the car crossed the southbound lane and went into the ditch, where it struck an embankment, overturned and ended up against a driveway culvert, Murphy said.

An investigation continues, but investigators have not determined the cause of the accident, he said.
