Creighton defeated No. 2 seed Wichita State 3-1 (25-21, 29-19, 17-25, 25-13) on Friday in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference volleyball tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Shockers had a 17-14 lead in the opening set but couldn’t close it out. Creighton won 11 of the final 15 points, then carried the momentum through the second set. WSU rebounded in the third set, going on an 8-1 run that gave it a 21-12 lead.
The Bluejays regained control early in the fourth set, taking a 10-5 lead, then later used a 12-0 run to go up 19-7.
Camri Zweisler led WSU with 13 kills and 21 digs. Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 37 assists, Sarah Waldorf had 23 digs and Ashley Andrade had nine blocks.
Wichita State (21-7) was No. 18 in the most recent volleyball RPI list, a position that should be enough to earn the Shockers an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament when invitations are announced Sunday.
Creighton (20-10), the No. 3 seed, will play in the championship match this afternoon against the winner of Friday night’s second semi between top seed Northern Iowa and Illinois State.
