LAWRENCE | Former University of Kansas football player Vernon Brooks has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation for a burglary in which four students were held at gunpoint.
The Lawrence Journal World reports that the 23-year-old Brooks could spend nearly four years in jail if he violates his probation.
Brooks pleaded no contest in January to aggravated burglary and aggravated assault. Prosecutors say he was one of two men who entered an apartment last May 14, thinking they could steal drugs. No one was injured.
The second man, former football player Jamal Greene, pleaded guilty in February to the same charges. He faces an April 1 sentencing. Brooks had already been dismissed from the team and Greene was kicked off the same day as the burglary.
