KCK police investigating first homicide of 2011

A body found on a trash-strewn embankment off the shoulder of Kaw Drive and 38th Street is being investigated as the first homicide of the year by Kansas City, Kan., police.

A passerby collecting cans noticed the body about 2:20 p.m. Saturday and flagged down a motorist, who used a cell phone to call police. Police spokesman Emmett Lockridge said the victim appeared to be a Hispanic male in his 20s.

Because of the cold weather, police said it was unclear how long the body might have been lying by the road in the undeveloped area.
