Woman, 79, becomes Wichita's 29th traffic fatality

WICHITA — Police announced today that a 79-year-old woman has died after being injured in a traffic accident Thursday.

Alice Bobbitt, who was a passenger in a 2008 Honda driven by her husband, died a couple of hours after being taken to the hospital Thursday, police Lt. Doug Nolte said. The accident occurred in the 500 block of East Pawnee on Thursday afternoon.

As the car was leaving a store parking lot and trying to cross two lanes of traffic, a 2003 Dodge pickup hit it on the passenger side, Nolte said.

Although Bobbitt's injuries were serious, she had been expected to survive, Nolte said.

Her death is the city's 29th traffic fatality this year, he said.
