Police find SUV linked to homicide

WICHITA — Police have found an SUV linked to a homicide earlier this month.

Someone walked up to a white Buick parked next to Perfection Auto, 4150 S. Broadway, shortly after 5 p.m. on Dec. 13 and fired several times, killing 41-year-old Stephen Smallwood in the passenger seat and wounding a 37-year-old man in the driver's seat, police have said.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting, Lt. Ken Landwehr said Thursday.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and aggravated battery on Dec. 17, according to records.

He is being held without bond in the Sedgwick County Jail for a suspected parole violation.

A white GMC Envoy, parked on South Broadway near the shooting scene, was captured on security video driving away shortly after the shooting.

That Envoy was found in the 9100 block of East Harry at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, police officials said.

It was being held for analysis of any evidence linking it to the shooting.
