City Council approves incentive for Hawker Beechcraft

WICHITA — The Wichita City Council, after returning from a news conference where the state announced a package of incentives to retain Hawker Beechcraft, put its official stamp on its share of the agreement.

The council unanimously approved kicking in its $2.5 million share of the $45 million package.

That was followed by Mayor Carl Brewer, who spoke at the news conference, presenting Gov. Mark Parkinson with a key to the city. Parkinson helped broker the deal.

The council already had a busy day before this morning's news on Hawker Beechcraft. The council is expected to take action on the restructuring of the park and recreation department, the tax increment financing district in Old Town and the false-alarm ordinance.
