18-year-old in serious condition after crashing stolen truck

Sedgwick County Sheriff's officers are investigating an accident in which an 18-year-old male remains in serious condition after crashing a stolen truck in south Wichita.

The accident happened shortly before noon Sunday, according to Sgt. Terry Litton with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's department.

9-1-1 dispatchers were notified at 11:21 an auto theft was in progress, Litton said. A truck had been taken from a residence in the 10000 block of W. 63rd.

"The vehicle was being followed by some friends of the victim. They seen it happen and the vehicle was driving erratically," Litton said. Sheriff's officers in the area soon began following as the truck turned from Maize Road onto 47th South. The 18-year-old driver then lost control of the vehicle as it overturned in a field near 47th and Hoover.

The driver was ejected. He was transported to Via Christi on St. Francis in critical condition.
