KU's Self puts on stilettos to support women's shelter

LAWRENCE | Some Lawrence and Baldwin City men, including Kansas basketball coach Bill Self and former Jayhawks player Scot Pollard, proudly put on red stilettos to support a domestic violence shelter.

The 2011 Red Shoe calendar went on sale Friday. It raises awareness about domestic violence and money for The Willow Domestic Violence Center.

Pollard, who wears a size 18 shoe, told The Lawrence Journal-World that he didn't hesitate to be the cover boy on the calendar to support the cause.

Self and his friend, Dan Chandler, owner of The Salty Iguana, are the men of March.

Sally Hare-Schriner, fundraising chairwoman for the Willow Center, says the calendar is based on the idea that you have to walk a mile in someone's shoes to understand their issues.
