An early morning accident on Interstate 435 south of Raytown Road killed one occupant and critically injuring another, Kansas City police said.
According to the police, a speeding Chevrolet traveling north on the highway struck another northbound vehicle.
The driver lost control of the Chevrolet. It skidded off the road and hit a concrete pillar.
One occupant of the vehicle was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, said police, who responded at 1 a.m. to the incident.
The second occupant was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle but was freed and taken to an area hospital. Police said this individual was in critical condition.
Police said the driver of the vehicle that had been struck by the Chevrolet was not hurt.
Police have not provided identities of the individuals.
