Veteran charged with stalking funeral protesters scheduled for 3 p.m. court appearance

Ryan Newell, the veteran charged with stalking members of the Westboro Baptist Church, is scheduled to make a first appearance on an amended complaint.

The appearance is scheduled for 3 p.m. today in Sedgwick County District Court.

Newell, 26, faces a trial on Dec. 16. On Thursday, he was charged with stalking, three counts of criminal use of weapons and one count of false impersonation of a law enforcement officer.
