Storm cleanup to be completed by Friday, city officials say

WICHITA — City officials say tree limb cleanup from the hailstorm that struck portions of Wichita on Sept. 15 should be completed by Friday.

Crews began picking up tree limbs and trunks on Sept. 21 and have collected about 1,200 loads of tree debris, officials said. Most of the cleanup occurred in the southwest corner of the city, though crews also went to other areas where debris had been reported and collected.

"We expect to be finished Thursday," Aaron Henning, assistant maintenance engineer, said in a prepared statement. "That will leave Friday for the final wrap-up."

The cleanup operation included 53 people and 52 pieces of equipment. Officials estimate the operation cost $112,000, including labor, equipment and fuel.
