Pedestrian hit on west Kellogg may have been drinking, police say

WICHITA — The 40-year-old man who was struck by an SUV when he ran into traffic on West Kellogg Wednesday night may have been drinking, police said today.

The man was struck at 6:51 p.m. in the curb lane of eastbound traffic in the 6000 block of West Kellogg, between Dugan and Hoover, Lt. Darras Delamaide said.

"The pedestrian ran directly in front of her car, and she had no option at that point," Delamaide said of witness reports from the scene. "Alcohol is suspected on the part of the pedestrian."

The 52-year-old woman driving the Lincoln Navigator was not injured.

The man was taken to Via Christi Medical Center on St. Francis for treatment, where he is in critical condition.
