WICHITA — Law enforcement officers from several jurisdictions will launch a 24-hour crackdown on Rock Road traffic on Wednesday, officials said.
Officers from Wichita, Mulvane, Derby and Bel Aire will join Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Sedgwick County Sheriff's deputies in watching for speeding, unsafe lane changes, aggressive driving, seat belt violations and driving under the influence.
The enforcement project will run from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday.
"Rock Road has a lot of high accident locations," Wichita Police Sgt. James Krok said.
The enforcement effort is an outgrowth of operation impact meetings in which officials of local law enforcement agencies discuss issues of concern.
It quickly became apparent that Rock Road was a problem for every law enforcement jurisdiction it is part of, Krok said.
"We get a lot of complaints" about road rage, speeders and aggressive drivers on Rock, Krok said.
