Hundreds of pounds of prescription drugs collected in Sedgwick County

WICHITA — Sedgwick County Sheriff's deputies collected more than 700 pounds of expired or unwanted medications during Saturday's "National Take Back Initiative."

The effort allowed residents to turn in over-the-counter or prescription drugs. Deputies collected 778 pounds of the drugs at three locations around the county, authorities said.

The national effort was sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration in an attempt to combat prescription drug abuse.
