Man beaten when Xanax sale goes wrong

An 18-year-old Valley Center man told police that he was beaten and robbed Sunday morning when he refused to buy Xanax, a prescription drug.

The incident happened at the Hooka Lounge at 5218 E. 21st shortly after 4:40 this morning.

"He was talking with three suspects, two black males and one female," said Sgt. Steven Hiser, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department. "The first suspect attempted to sell him a Xanax. The victim didn't agree with the price, and the suspect threw him on the ground and took his wallet with money in it, cell phone, cigarettes and identification."

The suspects are reported to have taken the man to a different location and dropped him off, where he then called police, Hiser said.
