Wichita weather: A rainy Thursday for metro area

Expect a few showers – and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm – later today and tonight in the Wichita metropolitan area, forecasters say.

Skies should be cloudy, with gusty south winds and highs of about 80 degrees. South winds will be blowing steadily in the 20s, with gusts of more than 35 miles an hour.

Rain should move into the Wichita area after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The strongest storms could bring nickel-sized hail and winds of about 50 miles an hour.

Locally heavy rain is possible, forecasters say, with the Flint Hills likely to receive the most rain. Friday should be sunny, with highs in the low 80s and light north winds.
