Sedgwick County to hear about HIV and AIDS cases

WICHITA — The director of the Sedgwick County Health Department will update commissioners this morning about the number of HIV and AIDS cases and what officials are doing to encourage people to get tested.

Director Claudia Blackburn will share statistics with commissioners and talk about the impact of a case involving a sergeant at McConnell Air Force Base. David Gutierrez was charged this week in military court, accused of engaging in sexual relations with people without telling them he is HIV-positive.

The health department offers testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

During their meeting today, commissioners also will hear from county manager William Buchanan, who will give an update on criminal justice issues.

The board meets beginning at 9 a.m. in its chambers on the third floor of the courthouse, 525 N. Main. The meeting is open to the public.
