Woman killed in Reno County collision

An elderly Hutchinson woman died Monday night following a two-vehicle collision in Reno County earlier in the day, authorities said.

The collision occurred at the intersection of 56th and Hendricks just before 9:15 a.m., Reno County Sheriff's Lt. Wayne Baughman said. Betty J. Cook, 86, was driving north on Hendricks and stopped at 56th, then pulled out in front of another car driving east on 56th, he said.

Cook was flown to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita, where she died Monday night.

A passenger in that car was taken to Promise Regional Hospital in Hutchinson, Baughman said. The driver of the second car was also taken to Promise.

All three people were wearing seat belts, Baughman said, and airbags deployed in the collision.
