Hutchinson man wounded in drive-by shooting Monday night

Authorities are searching for a man suspected of being involved in a drive-by shooting in Hutchinson last night.

A 29-year-old Hutchinson man was shot about 9:45 p.m. as he was walking on North Maple in Hutchinson, said Lt. Clay Rothe of the Hutchinson Police Department. Witnesses said the suspect drove past the victim and several other people along the street, neared the end of the block and then fired at least three shots from the vehicle.

The victim was hit once in the abdomen, Rothe said, and was taken to Hutchinson Hospital for treatment. No information on his condition has been released.

Evidence was recovered from the crime scene.

Shortly after the shooting, South Hutchinson officers attempted to stop a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. The driver, who was alone, fled on foot.

The vehicle was recovered as evidence and a search warrant was served in the 200 block of South Poplar in south Hutchinson by detectives and officers of the Hutchinson and South Hutchinson police departments and the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to call Hutchinson police at 620-694-2834 or Reno County Crime Stoppers at 620-694-2666.
