Lawrence man convicted of repeatedly raping young girl

LAWRENCE | A 43-year-old Lawrence man has been convicted of raping a young girl repeatedly over a three-year span.

A Douglas County jury found Raymond Stockton guilty of three counts of rape of a child younger than 14 and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Jurors deliberated into the evening Friday before returning a verdict after the five-day trial.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Stockton was convicted of having sex with the girl between 2004 and 2007, from the time she was 11 until she was 14.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson says Stockton could face a sentence of up to life in prison.

A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
