Kansas City police and firefighters were reporting many downed power lines, downed trees and even some trees on fire early this morning in the Northland, after powerful storms with heavy rain and hail roared through the area Saturday night.
Damage was reported in the vicinity of 44th Street and North Cypress avenue, 47th Street Northwest and North College Avenue and other areas of Clay County. Large trees were reportedly blocking several streets. High water was reported late Saturday night in the vicinity of North Vivion Road and Brighton Avenue.
The Northland damage came on the heels of major damage in Independence earlier Saturday evening. Hail the size of baseballs broke several skylights at Independence Center, and shattered car windshields in the mall's parking lot.
