WICHITA — Fire caused extensive damage to the press box at the Heights High School football field Wednesday night.
The Sedgwick County Fire Department said the fire was reported about 7:30 p.m. at the school at 53rd North and Hillside.
"The north end of the box was fully involved in fire when the first crews got here," Division Chief Carl Cox said.
Cox said the cause of the fire was not immediately known, but he said it appeared to have been electrical in nature. A damage estimate was not immediately available, he said.
No injuries were reported.
A City League football game between Southeast and Heights is scheduled at the field Friday night. USD 259 athletic director Bill Faflick said Wednesday night it was too soon to determine if the stadium would be usable. Faflick hopes to reach a decision on the game’s status Thursday.
