Boy tells police he made up story of attempted abduction

WICHITA — The 10-year-old boy who was walking home from Jefferson Elementary on Monday and told Wichita police that a man approached him and tried to force him into a black Chevy Suburban told police detectives on Tuesday he lied.

"He admitted that he had fabricated the story about the attempted abduction and that the real story was that he was kicking a pop can in the street," said Lt. Darras Delamaide of the Wichita Police Department.

The pop can "hit the Suburban on accident and the driver of the Suburban yelled at him and the boy went home and told his mom that he was a victim of an attempted abduction," Delamaide said.
