Army National Guard training center to get new leader

SALINA — Col. Eric Peck of the Kansas Army National Guard will assume authority of the Great Plains Joint Training Center during a ceremony Sunday in Salina.

Peck also will be promoted to brigadier general at the beginning of the ceremony. He will replace Brig. Gen. Norman Steen, who is retiring this month.

The training center provides a location where military and emergency responders can train in a realistic environment either separately or jointly to prepare for real-life disaster response.

The site includes the Smoky Hill Weapons Range and Crisis City, designed for the military and first responders to exercise their plans when responding to a disaster in a local community.

Peck joined the Kansas Army National Guard in 1974.
