Man to stand trial for murder in death of neighbor

WICHITA — A 41-year-old Wichita man was ordered to stand trial in the shooting death of his neighbor last summer.

Sedgwick County District Judge Eric Yost ruled this morning that prosecutors had enough evidence to proceed with a first-degree murder case against Derrick Richard following his preliminary hearing. Richard is accused of killing Grady Lane in July.

According to testimony at the hearing:

Richard and Lane got into an argument over a dog. Lane stopped talking to Richard. Richard responded by shooting Lane through the window of his house in the middle of the night.

Richard pleaded not guilty. His trial is tentatively set for Dec. 6.
