WICHITA — Alert nursing home employees foiled an attempted abduction Sunday morning, police said today.

Two women went to the Wichita Nursing Center at 2840 S. Hillside about 9 a.m. Sunday and attempted to sign out an 80-year-old patient and his prescription medication, police said.

Because the women were not on the list of people approved to take the patient with them, their request was denied. They then left.

A third person with connections to the nursing home is suspected of involvement in the attempted abduction, police said. Officers are still looking for the three suspects.

Wichita’s 2018 homicide numbers were higher than any time since the mid-1990s. But without an increase in self-defense killings, that number would be the same as last year, an analysis of law enforcement records shows.
