School board expected to adopt 2010-11 budget

WICHITA — The Wichita school board is expected to adopt its 2010-11 budget at its meeting tonight.

The board meets at 6 p.m. at North High.

The proposed 2010-11 budget of $631 million is $10 million higher than the one proposed for 2009-10. The increase is due mainly to the district paying off bond interest and principal payments, according to Linda Jones, chief financial officer.

The board also is expected to approve $18 million in bond money for renovations and additions to Heights High School. The board also is expected to hear from a committee in charge of searching for a name for the new elementary school scheduled to open in 2012 on North Arkansas.
