Turnpike crash claims second victim

WICHITA — A second person has died as a result of injuries in a rollover crash on the Kansas Turnpike in the Flint Hills early Friday morning.

Blanca Villanueva, 23, died at Wesley Medical Center on Friday evening, a hospital operator said today. She was a passenger in an SUV coming south on the turnpike that went off the freeway at about 7:30 a.m. at mile marker 108.2, between Cassoday and Emporia, turnpike authorities said.

The SUV went into the ditch and overturned three times, ejecting Villanueva and the driver, Max McCutcheon. McCutcheon, 18, died at the scene.

A second passenger in the SUV, 21-year-old Haley Randall of Rose Hill, was taken by ambulance to Newman Hospital in Emporia with injuries that are not life-threatening, authorities said.
