Casino plans go before Sumner County commission

WELLINGTON — Three developers that hope to build a casino in Sumner County will unveil their proposals at 10 a.m. today to county commissioners at the Raymond Frye Complex in Wellington.

No action or public comment will be taken today. Next Tuesday, commissioners will meet at the same location to take public comment and make endorsements.

The three developing groups are:

* Harrah's Sumner Investment Co., which has proposed a Harrah's Kansas casino for Exit 33, near Mulvane.

* Peninsula Gaming Partners of Dubuque, Iowa, which proposes the Kansas Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center for Exit 33.

* Global Gaming LLC of Ada, Okla., a subsidiary of Chickasaw Nation, with a proposal for a casino for Exit 19 near Wellington.

Harrah's has an alternative site for its casino and land that is within the Mulvane city limits.

The three proposals were delivered to the Kansas Lottery last month.

Proposals must be endorsed by local governments before the developers can sign contracts with the Lottery.
