She didn't have to go.
But when officers showed up at 3 a.m. Sunday in the 4000 block of W.13th to investigate a domestic violence case, there was this 21-year-oldwoman.
She was intoxicated and in a violent state, so officers briefly detainedher, according to Sgt. Steve Yarberry, spokesman for the Wichita PoliceDepartment.
At the end of their investigation, an officer told the woman she wouldbe released.
"She advised him to leave her in handcuffs because she needed to go tojail," Yarberry said. "Due to the fact that no charges were filed, thesuspect was released."
As soon as she was released, the woman turned and slapped the officer'sforearm while yelling again, she needed to go to jail.
The officer obliged, Yarberry said, taking the woman back into custodyand taking her to jail for one count of battery to a law enforcementofficer.
The officer was not injured.
