The Chiefs have moved rookie linebacker Cameron Sheffield to injured reserve, ending his season after he suffered what was described as a neck injury during a preseason game against Philadelphia.
To fill Sheffield's open roster spot, the team signed linebacker Charlie Anderson, who was last with Miami. He was a sixth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2004 and has played in 92 games with seven starts.
Sheffield suffered his injury while trying to make a tackle against the Eagles. He was carted off the field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Sheffield was a fifth-round pick out of Troy University in this past April's NFL draft.
